so i went for a short run tonight with some of the fabulous ladies in my running group at the gym. it was a nice, flat, short loop around the city. but what made it a little different from my runs over the past few weeks was the fact that it was nearly 85 degrees at 6:30 at night…while i might be used to the heat from my beloved yoga hot room (here’s a little shout out to Bikram Yoga Baltimore), it still makes me a bit worried for the summer months and training ahead. i hate running in the heat. it’s not fun. it’s not fun to wake up at (or before) 5:30 in the morning on a Saturday so you can get your long run in before it gets too hot. it’s not fun to put your social life aside on a Friday night so you don’t sleep through your alarm on said Saturday mornings. but (most of the time) it’s worth it. you get to see a different side of the city than you ever get to see on a regular day (seeing the sun rise over the Inner Harbor in Baltimore is something you need to do at least once…) AND your done with your workout before the rest of the world is even awake 🙂
that being said- thought i would share a link that i found to be useful…while summer is still a little bit around the corner, if training for a race in a warmer climate- these are ALL good things to consider.
